No. Each golfer gets a personal link by email or WhatsApp, and you can also paste it into a text message. The scorecard opens in the phone's browser. It keeps working without cell signal and sends the scores as soon as there is a connection again.

How does a scramble work in Golfevent?

The group is the team. The team keeps one scorecard, and every team member can enter scores on it from their own phone. The team handicap is worked out from the players' Course Handicaps using the WHS percentages for scrambles.

Can we do a shotgun start?

Yes. Choose a shotgun start and every group gets its own starting hole; the scorecard then starts on that hole. You can also send groups off the 1st tee at an interval you choose, and change the tee time or starting hole of any group.

What if some players don't have a Handicap Index?

They can play, but without a Handicap Index a player receives no strokes, and a scramble team with such a player gets no team handicap: it plays off its gross score and ends up below the teams with a handicap. Agree a Handicap Index with them before the event, or let them play for fun outside the competition.

Which tees and ratings can I choose?

Every tee that the club has rated, separately for men and women. When a tee has a women's rating as well as a men's rating, women playing that tee use the women's rating. The choice shows the yardage in yards and meters, the Course Rating and the Slope.

A corporate outing or a charity scramble shouldn't need a spreadsheet, a scoring table and a volunteer adding up cards while 120 golfers wait for their dinner. How an outing runs with Golfevent

1. Set up the event

Pick the course and choose the tee and rating the men and women play from. Yardages show in yards and meters, with Course Rating and Slope per tee.

2. Share one sign-up link

Your event page has a poster, your logo and colors, and a registration form. You approve every entry, and you can set a cap on the field size.

3. Pairings and start

Groups of two to four, drawn at random or balanced on handicap. Shotgun start with a starting hole per group, or tee times from the 1st tee.

4. Scoring on the phone

Every golfer gets a personal link by email or WhatsApp. In a scramble the whole team fills in one team card; it keeps working without signal and syncs when it can.

5. Watch it come in

One screen shows, group by group, how many holes are in and which cards have been submitted and attested.

6. Publish the leaderboard

Nobody sees the standings until you press publish, so the suspense lasts until the awards. Then the results are on every phone at once.

Formats and handicaps

Golfevent works from each player's Handicap Index and the Course Rating and Slope of the tee you choose, the way the World Handicap System does it in the US and everywhere else. The Course Handicap, the team handicap and the strokes per hole are calculated for you.

Scramble. The group is the team; everyone tees off, the team picks the best shot and plays one ball. The team handicap follows the WHS recommendation: 25/20/15/10 % of the Course Handicaps for a four-person team, 35/15 % for a two-person team.
Four-ball (best ball). Teams of two within a group, each playing their own ball, with 85 % of Course Handicap; the better net score counts on every hole. You can pick the teams yourself.
Alternate shot and Greensome. Teams of two playing one ball: 50 % of the combined Course Handicaps, or 60/40 % for Greensome.
Individual. Everyone plays their own ball, with gross and net stroke-play leaderboards and a Stableford leaderboard, all from the same card.

Good to know

Every event gets three leaderboards from the same cards: gross strokes, net strokes to par (a team at 60 net on a par 72 shows as −12) and Stableford points. Golfevent is not connected to GHIN; the Handicap Index comes from the player, who enters it at sign-up, or you fill it in. Closest to the pin and longest drive are marked on the course and noted by hand.

One flat price per event

Setting up and trying out is free, with up to four players: choose the course, pair the groups and fill in scorecards to see how it works. To open sign-ups, go beyond four players and publish the leaderboard, you activate the event for €5.00. That is a one-off payment for that one event: not per player, not per month.

Payment is by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and is charged in euros; your card issuer converts it to dollars. Businesses outside the EU that enter their company details pay €4.13, as no Dutch VAT applies.
